Panchayat

A Panchayat is a body of elected public representatives formed to carry out the administrative functions of Panchayati Raj institutions. As far as a Grama Panchayat is concerned, it is the main body that executes the decisions of the Grama Sabha and manages day-to-day administration.The main components of a Panchayat are:President: The head of the Panchayat. Presides over meetings and oversees the overall activities of the Panchayat.Vice President: Discharges duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: Public representatives elected from each ward of the Panchayat.Standing Committees: Formed for areas such as Finance, Development, Welfare, and Health & Education to streamline and facilitate the decision-making process of the Panchayat.

History of Grama Panchayat

Parali, which was part of South Malabar during the British rule, is a beautiful agricultural village enriched by clusters of palmyra palms, the Kalladikode hills, and the Perar (Bharathapuzha). This region, which was part of the Madras State until 1956, was also a major commercial center. History and Behind the Name Puruli Bridge: Built in 1852 during the British rule using only lime mortar and bricks, this is a nine-arched bridge. The construction was supervised by Engineer W. R. Robinson and Superintendent Viadis. It is believed that the name 'Parali' derived from the name of this 'Puruli Bridge'. Commercial Decline: The impacts inflicted by World War I and World War II were what destroyed the historical commercial significance of Parali.
